Investigation of an ancient Manuscript: “Outstanding 15th Century Church Book”

My first impression of “Outstanding 15th Century Church Book”, was its beauty. I thought the artwork of the pictures used, the font used for the text, and the layouts of the pages were exquisite. Even at the beginning of the book when displaying the table of contents, the book made me think of a stain glass window of an early built Catholic Church. As I flipped through the pages of the manuscript I noticed how the author used different colors of text to start a new point or topic in the book. Pictures and drawings were used repeatedly to create the mood and attitude the author was trying to display as well. The author also used alignment in the text when choosing to align the printed text while incorporating a picture of drawing. It seemed as though pictures were also used to separate columns of the text so that the proximity of the pages flowed for the reader allowing them to read right to left and from column to column. This created a style in which the author could illustrate the topic points through pictures and text. The author used the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity (C.R.A.P.) to emphasize the importance of the topic that was being relayed to the reader. If the author had simply written the text without illustrations or simple design techniques the book would not have been as beautiful and illustrious as it turned out to be. This is manuscript became closer to artwork than a book used to relay information and knowledge.
